Sugggestion: Political Leadership in Ghana-- the Way Forward
The name "Mahama" in Fanti language might stir some surprising interests in your mind. It sounds like "Me haw wo aa ma" (Ma haw wo aama: how it's pronounced) , to wit "I'll oppress you sore." It sounds funny though.
Don't be surprised a political leader does two things when in power- it's either he oppresses you or he aids you. Little wonder it is that even a religious leader was once dubbed "troubler of Israel."
Let's take a look at Ghana. We have been blessed with political leader hailing from the northern part of Ghana than from the south. The onus lies upon every Ghanaian to ensure that we encourage the people in our northern part to unite and stay focused in contributing more and more towards building upon Ghana's democracy. We pray God that our former national political leader for instance leads a life after being in power of being extremely the opposite of what I feel his name "Mahama" sounds in Fanti.
I suggest this is an era where we need all the political parties and players who are no longer in government to identify specific areas in the spheres of our national life where they could make solid recommendations, contributions and raise ideas that can be of immense benefit to the ruling government to implement towards the betterment of our nation.
Every good idea would definite be accepted in good faith once there aren't any other equally good alternatives and once it could pass the acid test and stand the tests of time no political counterpart in this wise being the leader of the day would fail to accept it and work with it.
There has come a point in time when all the political parties in this nation should be able to state out the specific plausible suggestions they all gave to each ruling party since the vey day they took over the helm of governance and be able to confidently say "you our head and since you took over governance we gave you these pieces of advice and intelligence information you worked with them and your success is as a result of our plausible suggestions"
No more criticism, no more acrimony. The head rules the body but the hands and the other part of the body do give specific support towards the totality of the human body. So does it occur in any nation, Ghana is no exception.
God bless Ghana.
The academic community should please continue with this dialogue.
